MFT OR CPC STUDENT INTERNSHIPS


Our practice is currently accepting students completing their practicum hours.  To apply for  a student therapist position please fill out the information below and we’ll be in contact with you shortly.

What is an MFT or CPC student internship?

An Internship is the culminating clinical experience that occurs in the last year of graduate school. The internship provides students the opportunity to expand their exposure to clinical situations in a practical real-world setting. It will also provide clinical experience/training under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional.

Vital Minds Therapy has a goal as an internship site along with its supervisors are to create an awareness to  potential experiences independent private practice activities.

Student interns will conduct individual, relationship or family therapy. In addition student therapist will have the opportunity to provide group therapy. They will complete these treatments under the supervision of their supervisor at the practicum site to accrue their direct client contact hours. They will also operate under supervision from their University. 

Supervision Goals

  • Clear expectations about procedures, methods, and performance evaluation.
  • The feeling of a solid relationship  between both the intern and the supervisor met with an agreement about what to do if either party feels there has been a rupture in the relationship.
  • Effective training provided on  case management, theories, skill development, and discovery of self-of-the-therapist.
  • Providng open communication, trust, and focus on areas of  growth.
  • Focus on the supervisee's goals in regards to the universities requirements. 
  • Develope the abilities of the therapist to objectively and subjectively evaluate their own progress and competency as a therapist


Finding the right site for you

It is important that you feel secure and confident in the internship site where you are completing your practicum site at. 

  • Consider your goals, what kind of populations or therapy issues would you like to work with?
  • Keep in mind what you’d like to get out the experience other than achieving your required hours
  • Consider the practice’s personality or business style and if it aligns with what you plan on doing after graduation
  • It is important to visit more than one Approved Student Internship site to see if it is the right fit for you
  • Review your school requirements and confirm that the site will meet those needs
  • Meet with your potential supervisor to make sure you feel comfortably building on that relationship


Requirements for student interns

  • Maintain professional liability insurance
  • Secure and pay for a monthly profile in Psychology Today.
  • Track hours and submit logs to site supervisor at the end of each semester.
  • Track client and supervision hours to submit required by graduate program.
  • Continue to treat clients through the entire internship period.
  • Attend a mandatory training before the first semester.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Attend weekly supervision sessions with site supervisor.
  • Read AAMFT Ethics Guidelines, Nevada Administrative Code, Nevada Revised Statutes, Dress Codes, Emergency Plans for Violence, Aggression, and Suicide Plans.
